The BIR conference series originates from an
initiative of the late professor Bengt G. Lundberg of Växjö and Stockholm
universities and colleagues at the universities of Rostock and Berlin. They
wanted to create a forum where researchers in business informatics, senior
as well as junior, could meet and discuss with each other. The term business
informatics was chosen as a translation of German “wirtschaftsinformatik”. The conference series has its base in the Baltic
Sea region (including Norway and Iceland) and would normally be organized
there. However, this should not hinder that once in a while it can be
organized elsewhere. Furthermore, the following rules apply: The name of the conference should be “xxth
International conference on Perspectives in Business Informatics Research”
or “BIRyyyy” in short. - The conference is usually 2 days. - The conference welcomes papers from all over the world. - The conference welcomes papers from PhD students
as well as from senior researchers. - The best papers are selected for presentation at
the conference and publication in the conference proceedings. The copyright
stays with the authors, if not stated otherwise. The proceedings should have
an ISBN. - The conferences can have a forum, e.g. a poster
session, in which papers describing more preliminary research can be
presented. A workshop (doctoral consortium) directed specifically to PhD
students may also be organized. - The organizers should make every attempt to keep
the costs for attending the conference reasonably low. - The economic risk stays with the organizers. There should be no collection
of money. Should there be a profit it should be used to the benefit of the
local PhD students.
The conference series has a steering committee,
to which one or two named persons from each appointed organizer are invited.
The most important tasks for this committee are, (1) based on one or more
proposals, to appoint new organizers of the BIR conferences, and (2) to help
organizers with whatever matters they can concerning the organization of a
conference. A physical steering committee meeting should be
organized some time during each conference. The conference series has a web site
http://www.bir-conference.org/ It
has also a logotype that should be used in web material and printed
documentation produced in connection with the organization of a BIR
conference. Steering Committee of BIR Conferences
